| I am a licensed architect and have been practicing architecture since 1980. Little by little , the word of mouth spread to homeowners and all my contractor and business contacts of the quality of my work . This was a sign that it was obvious that I needed to open my own firm. I started my own firm on 1/1/04 and have progressed very nicely from there. I mostly work by myself delegating the basic drafting to the staff . I believe I can create a better project if I can measure the existing home personally so I get to know the ins and outs of the flow of space and the feel of what's there, and have a direct relationship with the owner , so as I'm designing I have a better sense of whats needed to create a more complete project. I find when I'm the one drawing and detailing a design, I'm more in tune to the structural requirements and the coordination of the construction document requirements, and any questions that need an answer can be done directly by me. I feel a great need in getting to know the home owner to truly understand their needs and bring out additional needs that they didn't even know they had and try to design something that I absolutely love and the homeowner sits back with a smile and says...that's exactly what I wanted. Although my primary interest and business is designing in the high end residential area I do enjoy helping people out with small additions or light commercial work. The construction documents that are produced from the firm are detailed to the extents of explicit intent for construction, requiring no interpretation from the contractor. Some projects, by the owners request, can be produced with minimal effort and detail for a budget consideration. These low cost plans, basically for permit only, are if the owner is going to assume the general contractor roll and create their own detail decisions. Dealing with the latest state of the art software has enabled me to produce quality construction document that are easily coordinated with consultants and project owner The skills I have developed in using Cad software throughout the years has necessitated a need to helped small firms and individual people get up and running with AutoCAD and provide in house and privet tutoring for AutoCAD. The process starts out with a visit to the home or site, and project requirements from the owner defining the scope of work they want to do. Some basic ideas are discussed as well as zoning and building limitations, expectations of contractor relations, and basic budgeting prices. Preliminary design sketches are created showing different options and then revised until the layout and look of the design is exactly what is wanted. The next step is to take the final preliminary drawings and turn them into Cad construction documents, with exact dimensions, specifications, framing sizes, sections, elevations, and details and all information to produce a set of drawings for the permit process and contractor bidding. When you've selected a contractor for the project, they'll take the drawings and have all the information to build the project. Any questions that arise are coordinated and resolved with a simple phone call, field visit or revised drawings. |
